And on Sunday, he's having members of Congress over to the White House to watch the Super Bowl.
In just 10 days in office, President Obama has taken a host of steps to tamp down the often-harsh political tone in Washington and fulfill his promise to preside over a new era of civility.

"I cannot remember any president coming in so determined to do all the little things to change the tone in Washington," American University political scientist Allan Lichtman says.

Whether the effort will work remains to be seen. Virtually every president vows to try. Few succeed.

"Every one of them tries to set a tone that's friendlier, more open, more inviting," says University of Texas presidential historian Bruce Buchanan. Both Clinton and Susan Rice were meeting with members of the transition team and senior State Department personnel, officials said.

Clinton was to have dinner at Condoleezza Rice's apartment at the exclusive Watergate complex later Monday, the officials said. Rice said on Sunday that she thinks Clinton will do a great job as secretary of state.

It was not clear if Clinton and Susan Rice — who had strained relations during the Democratic primaries because Rice early on supported Obama for the presidential nomination — would meet together on Monday, although the transition offices are in a relatively confined area of the building.

There has been speculation that the tension between the two women may carry over into the Obama administration, particularly because the president-elect intends to elevate the U.N. envoy position to a cabinet post, on par with the secretary of state.

Read Article: USA Today

Posted by: Phoenix Arizona Personal Injury Attorneys and Lawyers

Va. governor turns down possible Obama appointment

Va. governor turns down possible Obama appointment

RICHMOND, Va (AP) — Gov. "I've never heard myself mentioned for education secretary."

Read Article: USA Today

Posted by: Phoenix Wrongful Death Lawyer

Obama names budget director, promotes restraint

Obama names budget director, promotes restraint

By David Jackson, USA TODAY
CHICAGO — President-elect Barack Obama announced more members of his economic team and pledged a review Tuesday of all federal spending, saying "if we are going to make the investments we need, we also need to shed the spending we don't need."
Obama named Peter Orszag to head the Office of Management and Budget and named Rob Nabors as deputy director. At a news conference to announce the appointments, Obama again recited a familiar campaign pledge — to go over the federal budget "line by line" to cut wasteful spending and obsolete programs.

"Given the extraordinary circumstances that we find ourselves in, however, I think it is important for the American people to know we are putting together a first-class team, and that we don't intend to stumble into the next administration. We intend to hit the ground running," Obama said.

Read Article: USA Today

Posted by: Phoenix Construction Site Accident Lawyer

Obama volunteers plan to keep in touch

Obama volunteers plan to keep in touch

Now what? That's the question for millions of volunteers who worked to elect Barack Obama — and for the organization that mobilized them.
Through innovative use of online social networks, the Obama campaign ended up with more than 2 million registered users on its MyBarackObama.com website. That database, plus the millions more e-mail addresses the campaign collected through events and fundraising, could be a valuable resource for the Obama administration.

The Obama transition team and the remaining campaign organization are keeping in touch with volunteers online, soliciting their opinions about their campaign experiences, asking volunteers to share war stories, and inviting them to write about their "vision" for the country. The campaign and transition websites this week asked visitors to click on a link to donate to victims of California wildfires — resulting in more than 100,000 hits.

Campaign manager David Plouffe this week sent an e-mail survey to those registered with the campaign website, asking how people want to remain involved and what issues they care about. Keeping Obama supporters engaged and active through the Obama transition website change.gov is "our first priority," transition spokesperson Jen Psaki says.

Read Article: USA TODAY

Posted by: Phoenix Wrongful Death Lawyer

Clinton, eyed for secretary of State, meets with Obama

Clinton, eyed for secretary of State, meets with Obama

WASHINGTON - President-elect Barack Obama has met in Chicago with Sen.
